About Carol

Carol Douglas is a York-based painter who took up painting in her late 60’s.

Her abstract compositions of household objects, still lifes, landscapes and abstracted figures are created using small rollers rather than traditional brush techniques.

She draws inspiration from the 'kitchen sink' movement, abstract-expressionists like Philip Guston, Florence Hutchings and Rose Wylie as well as her own personal art collection.

“Before I became a painter, I collected paintings, sculptures and was interested in interior design. The domestic has always been my focus and speaks of my personality and history.”

Carol has exhibited at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Sunny Bank Mills in Leeds, Will & Yates in Deal, Partisan in York and more, and has collaborated with clothing brand TOAST.

She sells original paintings, commissions and prints across the UK and internationally, and is currently represented by Broth Art in London.
